VISAKHAPATNAM: A man was arrested Tuesday following an attempt to sexually assault a female passenger aboard a Bengaluru-Howrah train. The incident occurred around 2 am near Samalkota railway station.
According to local police, the accused, Sumanth Mandal, a tailor by profession, was traveling on the same train. The woman, also en route to Howrah, reported being assaulted while asleep.
With the assistance of fellow passengers, the accused was detained and handed over to railway police at Visakhapatnam. The victim has filed a complaint alleging sexual assault.
DSP Mohan Babu confirmed the arrest and stated that a formal FIR has been registered. The accused will be transferred to Samalkota for further investigation.
