Man Gets Three-Year Jail Term In Pocso Case
After the trial, Special Pocso Court Judge K. Shailaja found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence.

TIRUPATI: A Special Pocso Court in Ongole on Friday sentenced a 21-year-old man to three years' imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in a 2017 case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 and directed that ₹4,000 be paid to the survivor as compensation.
According to the prosecution, the victim was 17 years old when the offence occurred on September 15, 2017. The accused, Marthala Mahendra Reddy of Maruthi Nagar in Ongole, allegedly took the girl from Addanki without her parents' knowledge to a relative's house at Indla Cheruvu in Donakonda mandal, where he sexually assaulted her.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's father, Ongole I Town police registered a case. Then DSP P. Sridhar investigated the case, arrested the accused and filed the charge sheet before the court.
After the trial, Special Pocso Court Judge K. Shailaja found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence. Special Public Prosecutor Gottipati Srinivasa Rao represented the prosecution, while police produced witnesses before the court.
Prakasam Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju appreciated the investigating officers, prosecution team and court liaison staff for securing the conviction under the supervision of the district Pocso Monitoring Team.
Teacher killed in road accident
A 58-year-old government school teacher was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a lorry near Jalantrakota in Kanchili mandal of Srikakulam district.
The deceased was identified as Dasari Chandrasekhar, a Hindi teacher at a government school in Sompeta.
Absconding ganja smuggling accused held
Police in Alluri Sitarama Raju district arrested an absconding accused in a ganja smuggling case.
The accused, identified as Madhab, a native of Odisha, had allegedly fled after police seized about 1,373 kg of dry ganja near Labburu in the district on July 13. Acting on specific information, police tracked him down and arrested him.
Young man dies by suicide
A 25-year-old man died by suicide at his residence in Srikakulam district.
The deceased was identified as Majji Hemanth Kumar, a driver. Police said he had been suffering from depression following family disputes and took the extreme step.
Man stabs lover to death, burn body; arrested
A B.Tech student was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering a woman with whom he was in a relationship and burning her body in Palnadu district.
According to Chilakaluripet Town police, the accused, Bala Saidulu, and the woman were studying at the same private college in Guntur and were in a relationship.
The woman's family lodged a missing complaint on August 4, following which police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the investigation, police recovered the woman's burnt body near the Chintapalli Right Canal bund at Karampudi in Palnadu district.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly lured the woman to the canal bund on the pretext of talking to her. Following an argument, he allegedly stabbed her to death, set the body on fire and fled the scene.
Police arrested the accused and shifted the body for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway.
