Man Dies In Road Accident

A 60-year-old man died in a road accident on National Highway-44 near Abbasnagar in Kurnool on Sunday night.

Kurnool:A 60-year-old man died in a road accident on National Highway-44 near Abbasnagar in Kurnool on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as A. Seelanna, a resident of Yemmiganur. Police said Seelanna had come to Kurnool to attend his grandson’s birthday celebrations.

While crossing the highway at night, he was hit by a two-wheeler. He sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. The two-wheeler rider was identified as Amarnath from Nandyal district. Kurnool traffic police have registered a case and started an investigation.

AP High Court likely to get three Judges

Vijayawada:Three High Court judges are among 14 judicial officers proposed for transfer to the Andhra Pradesh High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium.

The judges in the list include Justice Manavendranath Roy from Gujarat High Court, Justice Donadi Ramesh from Allahabad High Court, and Justice Subhendu Samanta from Calcutta High Court. Sources said the Collegium has taken up the exercise of effecting transfers of judges across various High Courts in the country, with a total of 14 names under consideration.

Though the Collegium has not yet released official orders, officials indicated that the process is at its final stage, with only minor formalities pending. The final recommendations are likely to be forwarded to the Union government within the next couple of days for approval.

The proposed reshuffle comes as part of the Collegium’s periodic review aimed at ensuring balanced distribution of judicial manpower across High Courts. Formal notification of the transfers is expected once the government clears the recommendations.

Four smugglers arrested with 6.3 Kg of contraband in Nellore

Nellore:In a crackdown on drug peddling, Santhapet Police arrested four persons in Nellore city who were selling ganja.

Based on credible information, the police carried out a swift operation at Rayapuvari Street in Kapadipalem and apprehended the accused along with ganja, cash, and a vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Shaik Subhani, 36 (A1), Shaik Siraj, 42 (A2), Kondra Jyothi, 45 and Shaik Meera, 39. All are residents of Nellore city and Kodurupadu village.

The seized property includes 6.350 kg of ganja, `22,500 cash and an auto rickshaw.

Investigations revealed that the accused, addicted to bad habits and eager for easy money, were procuring ganja from Visakhapatnam at `10,000 per kg and selling it in small 10-gram packets at `300 each, earning nearly `30,000 per kg.

Several of the accused already have multiple ganja cases against them, with A1 previously booked under the PD Act and A2 facing eight prior cases.

The operation was carried out by Nellore Town DSP P. Sindhu Priya. The arrests were made by Santhapet CI G. Dasharadha Rama Rao, SI G. Balakrishna, and their team.

Three arrested for duping Rs 2.5 crore

Kakinada:Eluru Two Town police arrested three persons – Varapula Phanindra Kumar (33) of Eluru (the ex-credit officer in AU Small Finance Bank, Eluru Branch), Prasadam Jaya Krishna (32) of Madepalli (loan broker/connector) and Musi Sitaramaiah (32) of Medinaravupalem (loan broker/connector) – on the charge of duping the AU Small Finance Bank and the people with Rs 2.5 crores. The Investigation Officer of the case, K. Ashok Kumar, said that the accused created fake documents and took Aadhar cards from some of the customers and withdrew the amount from the bank. Eluru Two Town Police registered a case. He said that the remaining accused would be arrested soon.

Bolero theft ends in dramatic chase at Chimakurthi

Nellore:A Bolero vehicle parked in front of a house was stolen by a youth in Chimakurthi late on Sunday night. The owner, who quickly noticed the theft, alerted the local police.

Chimakurthi police immediately informed their counterparts at Santanutalapadu, who attempted to intercept the vehicle. In the chase, the accused rammed into an auto placed as a blockade, causing the Bolero to plunge into a canal. He managed to escape from the scene.

Two constables, O. Narayana Reddy and SK Sheriff, sustained injuries in the incident and were shifted to Kim’s Hospital for treatment.

Santanutalpadu SI V. Ajay Babu said that they have identified the accused as Nayak, 18, hailing from Odisha, and expressed confidence in nabbing him. He suspected that the youth was under the influence of liquor.
