A man was detained by police after he allegedly ran towards the President's convoy near a hotel in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.
Police personnel deployed along the convoy route immediately intercepted the individual, preventing any security breach. The incident caused brief commotion in the area.
Authorities cleared the route promptly, and the President’s convoy proceeded without further disruption.
Vigilance raids fertiliser shops; stocks worth Rs 19 lakh seized
Vigilance officials, along with agriculture department personnel, conducted surprise inspections at two fertiliser and pesticide shops in Tatiparthi village of Podalakur mandal in SPSR Nellore district and seized stocks worth nearly Rs 19 lakh over alleged violations.
During the raids, officials seized fertilisers and pesticides worth `9.84 lakh from Chaithanya Fertilisers & Pesticides and stocks valued at `9.13 lakh from Balaji Fertilisers & Pesticides.
The vigilance department registered cases against both establishments under Section 6A and initiated further investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Three die in multi-vehicle collision in Vijayawada
Three persons have died while another injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the west bypass road in Vijayawada on Tuesday.
According to Gannavaram police, a container truck rammed into a car travelling ahead of it. The impact pushed the car into an oil tanker in front, which then hit a motorcycle travelling ahead.
Motorcyclist Dasari Venkateswara Rao, Jayamangala Naga Venkata Durga, who was travelling in the car, and her three-year-old son died on the spot.
Another occupant of the car sustained injuries and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the accident.
Gudivada Amarnath appears before AP Women's Commission
YSRC senior leader and former minister Gudivada Amarnath appeared before the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission on Tuesday in connection with his remarks against state home minister Vangalapudi Anitha.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Amarnath said he had responded to the three questions raised by the Commission chairperson and stood by his remarks.
He also claimed that he had brought to the Commission's notice remarks allegedly made by the home minister against former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, his family members and YSRC leaders.
Amarnath clarified that his “make-up minister” remark was intended as political satire directed at the home minister’s style of functioning and alleged neglect of her responsibilities, and was not aimed at women in general.
HC stays prosecution of former minister Kodali Nani
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has stayed the state government's order granting sanction to prosecute former minister and YSRC leader Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Kodali Nani) and directed that no action be initiated against him until further orders.
Justice Y. Lakshmana Rao, hearing a petition filed by Kodali Nani on Tuesday, stayed the government's sanction to prosecute him in a case relating to alleged derogatory remarks made against then Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and then State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.
The case pertains to statements allegedly made by the former minister during the local body election period in February 2021, when the Model Code of Conduct was in force.
4 arrested in theft cases; gold, silver ornaments recovered
Kakinada district police have arrested four persons and taken a juvenile into custody in connection with a series of theft cases, recovering gold and silver ornaments and a laptop collectively valued at about `57 lakh.
Superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav told reporters on Tuesday that those arrested were identified as Dharmadi Durga Prasad, 32, of Kakinada, Gorripudi Venkata Ramana, 43, of Balabhadrapuram, Pasi Sekhar, 24, of Kutukuluru village and Gedela Mahesh, 30, of Kakarlapudi in Tadepalligudem mandal. A juvenile was also taken into custody.
Police recovered 380.70 grams of gold ornaments, 2.85 kg of silver ornaments and a laptop during the investigation.
The SP said another accused, Chukka Prashant of Jagannadhapuram in Kakinada, is absconding. He added that 46 grams of gold ornaments allegedly pledged with a gold finance company in Tanuku are yet to be recovered.
Advising the public to take preventive measures against house burglaries, Bindu Madhav urged residents to inform police before leaving their homes unattended so that they could be covered under the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS). He also advised householders to install CCTV cameras, avoid using conspicuous locks on front gates and ensure newspapers and milk packets do not accumulate outside vacant houses.
The SP appreciated assistant superintendent of police Patil Devraj Manish, Indrapalem sub-inspector M. Veerababu, crime sub-inspector B. Venkateswarlu and other police personnel for solving the cases.
Man gets 20-year rigorous imprisonment for raping minor
The Special POCSO Court in Tenali on Tuesday sentenced a 34-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Repalle of Bapatla district in 2022. In addition, the court fined him ₹10,000.
The convict, Guduri Ramesh alias Salmon Raju, a resident of Netaji Nagar in Repalle town, has been found guilty under Section 376(AB) of the IPC and Section 6 read with Section 5(m) of the POCSO Act.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 22, 2022, when the accused had come to the victim’s house for painting work. The girl, suffering from fever, had been left resting indoors by her mother, who was assisting the workers. Hearing unusual sounds from inside the house, the mother rushed in and allegedly found the accused sexually assaulting her daughter. Based on her complaint, Repalle police registered a case.
Following an investigation led by then DSP A. Srinivasa Rao, police arrested the accused, remanded him to custody, and later charge-sheeted him with supporting forensic reports.
During the trial, public prosecutor Velineni Raghavaiah presented evidence that established the guilt of the accused.
Further, Special POCSO Court Judge M. Indira Priyadarshini directed the government to provide ₹4 lakh as compensation to the victim.
Search continues for missing toddler, says Kakinada SP
The search for a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who went missing from a palm oil plantation at Ch. Agraharam, a hamlet of Dondavaka panchayat in Tuni mandal of Kakinada district, on June 6 is continuing, superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav said on Tuesday.
Responding to queries from reporters, the SP said special police teams had been deployed in Kakinada and neighbouring districts to trace the missing child.
According to sources, investigators are examining the call data records of persons under suspicion and have analysed more than 6,000 call records, including mobile tower locations.
The special teams are also visiting villages in Narsipatnam mandal and nearby areas where nomadic communities reside as part of the investigation. Police are further examining technical evidence and CCTV footage in connection with the case.
Court remands two suspended head constables till July 14
A city court on Tuesday remanded two suspended head constables to judicial custody till July 14 in connection with the custodial death of Sai Krishna at Krishna Lanka police station.
The two policemen, Ashok and Jangam Nani, were produced before the court by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case.
The SIT questioned the two head constables after they surrendered before the police on Monday as part of its investigation into the circumstances leading to Sai Krishna’s custodial death and the subsequent disappearance of his body.
Pastor among 3 booked for branding 9-year-old girl in ASR district
Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district police have registered cases against three persons, including a pastor, for allegedly inflicting burn injuries on a nine-year-old girl using a hot spatula after branding her a thief.
The incident took place at Darakonda locality under G.K. Veedhi mandal in the district on June 26. It came to light after the police registered a case against the trio.
Police said the nine-year-old had been employed as a maid by the pastor couple G. Jayaraju and Ratnakumari of Darakonda over the past few months. At the same time, the girl also studied at the local government school.
The pastor couple suspected the girl after they found ₹10,000 cash in the house missing. They allegedly abused her verbally. Rupavati, a neighbour of the pastor, branded the girl a thief and physically assaulted her. Rupavati inflicted burn injuries on the girl’s hand with a hot spatula.
The victim girl then left for her hometown and narrated the entire episode to her family members. The family members and their relatives pulled up the pastor couple and Rupavati. Later they lodged a complaint with the police.
