The case was initially registered as a suspicious death but was later converted into a murder case after the victim’s son reported that her mangalsutra and mobile phone were missing.

Visakhapatnam: Srikakulam district police have arrested a man for the murder of a woman whose body was found on a national highway service road earlier this month.
The accused, Gollapalli Prashanth Kumar of Narasannapeta, was traced using technical evidence, including mobile phone data and CCTV footage. The victim, Gurugubelli Seetharatnam, was found dead on December 3 on the Visakhapatnam-Srikakulam NH-16 service road within Etcherla police station limits.
The case was initially registered as a suspicious death but was later converted into a murder case after the victim’s son reported that her mangalsutra and mobile phone were missing. Police said the accused and the woman had known each other for about two years.
According to investigators, Prashanth Kumar allegedly strangled Seetharatnam with her saree and mangalsutra thread on December 2 after she demanded ₹50,000 and threatened to reveal their relationship to his wife. He later took her mangalsutra and mobile phone and dumped the body on the roadside.
The accused was intercepted at Jarjam Junction by JR Puram Circle Inspector Avatharam and Etcherla police. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime. Police recovered a rolled gold chain and a gold pendant from him.
A case has been registered under Sect 103(1) and 303(2) of BNS.
