Man Arrested For Rs 6.5 Lakh Fake Gold Fraud

The accused reportedly sought more time and later threatened the complainant

KADAPA: Proddatur I Town police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating a photographer of Rs 6.5 lakh by promising to supply gold at a lower price and delivering fake gold bars.

The accused, Kannayya alias Prasad of Vinayakapuram in Puttur mandal of Tirupati district, was taken into custody on July 26 at Vasavi Circle on the Yerraguntla bypass road based on credible information. A case has been registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in crime no. 150/2026.

According to police, the complainant, Bellala Ravikumar (44), a photographer from Vasanthapeta in Proddatur, was introduced to the accused through an acquaintance. The accused allegedly lured him with claims of preparing gold at a cheaper rate, offering 100 grams for Rs 1 lakh. Trusting him, Ravikumar paid Rs 5 lakh initially and later an additional Rs 1.5 lakh towards expenses.

After a few weeks, the accused handed over gold-coloured bars. However, upon verification, they were found to be fake. When confronted, the accused reportedly sought more time and later threatened the complainant.

Police seized a fake gold-coated bar, a laptop, and a mobile phone from the accused. Sub-inspector G. Madhusudan Reddy is investigating the case.
