Man Alleges Assault by Karapa Police; SHO Denies Charge
He alleged that the worker abused him by referring to his caste
Kakinada: A man has alleged that police personnel at Karapa Police Station in Kakinada district assaulted him after he dialled the police emergency helpline 112 instead of approaching the local police station directly. Police, however, denied the allegation. They charged that the complainant had misbehaved with a woman constable. According to Medisetti Venkata Ramana, a resident of Medisettivaripeta hamlet in Gorripudi village of Karapa mandal, he had an argument with a worker at a sweet shop on Saturday over payment for sweets.
He alleged that the worker abused him by referring to his caste. Ramana claimed that when he approached the Karapa Police Station to lodge a complaint, no action had been taken. He then called the 112 emergency helpline and explained the incident. The man alleged that Karapa police asked him to visit the police station on Sunday along with his wife. Police made them remain at the police station until Sunday night and asked them to return on Monday. Ramana said when he visited the police station again on Monday, the sub-inspector and three constables allegedly questioned him for calling 112 without first informing the local police station. He claimed that the SI and constables went on to assault due to which he lost consciousness.
The man said his paternal uncle Prasad later admitted him to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada for treatment of injuries on his neck and right arm. Karapa station house officer (SHO) T. Sunitha has denied the allegations. She told Deccan Chronicle that Ramana had quarrelled with a woman constable at the police station while attempting to lodge a complaint and made derogatory remarks against her. She said the woman constable then filed a complaint against Ramana.
The SHO alleged that Ramana is making counter-allegations to deflect attention from the case against him.
