Low pressure likely over south Bay of Bengal

Amaravati IMD director Stella S. said the impact of the low pressure will be known after it forms over the south Bay of Bengal on April 9. She said south coastal AP might receive moderate rainfall from April 9 to April 11.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A low pressure area is likely to form over south Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours due to the upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, according to a report of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per the report, there is a possibility of fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Isolated thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (speed 30–40 kmph), and heavy rainfall are likely with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over Andaman Sea, southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal between Sunday and April 9.

During the past 24 hours, Chintapapudi (Eluru district) received a rainfall of 44 mm, followed by Prathipadu (Kakinada district) 42.6 mm and Narsipatnam (Anakapalli district) 38.6 mm.
