Low Pressure in Bay, Heavy Rains to Continue in Andhra Pradesh
As per the IMD, light to moderate rainfall has occurred at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and most places over Rayalaseema region between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.
Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area formed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts on Sunday morning.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, it is likely to intensify into a depression on Monday, bringing widespread and heavy rainfall over coastal as well as Rayalaseema districts in AP. It is expected to cross over during the forenoon of Tuesday, August 19.
On Sunday, Visakhapatnam city and parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh – Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), Kakinada and Konaseema districts – witnessed continuous rainfall under the influence of the low pressure area.
IMD has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall) for 10 districts of AP for Monday, August 18, followed by an orange alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) in eight districts and a yellow alert (heavy rainfall) in six districts of the state.
Extremely heavy rain is likely in parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, ASR, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, Eluru, West Godavari, NTR and Guntur districts on Monday.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Krishna, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam and Nandyal districts on Monday.
On the same day, isolated heavy rain is likely over parts of the Kurnool, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor districts.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and Yanam of Puducherry from Monday to Thursday, August 21.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until further orders due to squally weather and gusty wind along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
