Lorry Loaded With Sulphur Gutted After MUV Hits It

The sulphur load lorry had been proceeding to Maharashtra from Visakhapatnam: Yeleswaram Police Station sub-inspector N. Ramalingeswara Rao

KAKINADA: A lorry loaded with sulphur got reduced to ashes when a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) hit it on the National Highway near Chinnampeta in Yeleswaram mandal of Kakinada district on Friday. Nobody was injured, according to Yeleswaram sub-inspector N. Ramalingeswara Rao.

The sulphur-laden lorry was proceeding to Maharashtra from Visakhapatnam. The MUV carrying empty tins, coming to Visakhapatnam from Kathipudi hit a divider and tumbled to the other side. The sulphur-loaded lorry hit it which resulted in a fire.

Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire. Sources said 30 tonnes of sulphur worth ₹52 lakh has been lost. Following the accident, police implemented one way on the route from Chinnimpeta to Yerravaram. Yeleswaram police have registered a case.
