Vijayawada: Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh has called upon the Telugu community worldwide to boost investments in Andhra Pradesh.

In a vibrant showcasing of the state’s cultural pride and economic potential, Lokesh addressed a gathering of the Telugu diaspora in Singapore on Sunday. He cited the pivotal role of non-resident Indians (NRIs) as brand ambassadors for their state.
The diaspora meeting was organised by the APNRT organisation at the OVIS Auditorium. The minister highlighted the economic significance of foreign direct investment (FDI) and said Singapore has been a major contributor to India's overall FDI, comprising nearly 19 per cent of the total investment inflow. "In the fiscal 2024-25, Singapore alone contributed approximately $14.94 billion of the total $81.04 billion in foreign investments to India," he said.
The minister expressed optimism that, with the support of the Telugu Diaspora, Andhra Pradesh could in the near future become the next Singapore.
Lokesh assured the Telugu community living in south-east Asia that they would receive the AP government’s support to face any challenge they encountered.
Reiterating that the NRIs “are the true ambassadors” of Andhra Pradesh, Lokesh cited his admiration for modern Singapore’s architect, Lee Kuan Yew, who transformed a small fishing island into a global economic powerhouse. “You are not just NRIs, but MRIs—Most Reliable Indians,” he remarked, underscoring the significant contributions of the Telugu community.
The AP minister urged overseas Telugus to leverage their resources to create employment in AP, which is aiming for the creation of 2 million new jobs.
Lokesh introduced to them the chief minister’s "P4" initiative, which aims to eliminate poverty in the state. "This is our mantra and our approach. We need your cooperation to achieve our vision of a poverty-free state," he said.
The minister emphasized the collaborative dynamics of the “double-engine” government, with the state and central leadership joining forces for development. In conclusion, Lokesh urged the gathering, “Let us work together for a prosperous and happy Andhra Pradesh.”
The event drew Telugus from including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines etc too, signalling unity among the global Telugu community.
