Vijayawada:Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday declared that the 30-year-old dream of people belonging to Mangalagiri to have their own government hospital will soon become a reality.
In this regard, Lokesh said he will lay the foundation stone for a 100-bed hospital with ultra-modern facilities in Mangalagiri on Sunday, April 13. He underlined that the Mangalagiri hospital will be a role model for the entire country. It will be built on 7.35 acres of land with total construction area of 1,15,000 square feet at an estimated cost of ₹52.2 crore.
The minister directed officials to ensure the hospital matches corporate standards, offering the best possible medical care and facilities. The hospital will include departments, such as general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology and surgery. It will have three operation theatres, a dialysis centre, a thalassemia ward and a de-addiction outpatient centre. The construction of the hospital is expected to be completed within a year.
Lokesh's commitment to establish an ultra-modern hospital at Mangalagiri is part of his promise during his "Yuvagalam" padayatra. He proposed the project to the AP cabinet in October 2024. It got swift approval. The hospital is being seen as a testament to Lokesh’s dedication towards his constituency Mangalagiri, which rewarded him with the third-highest majority in the state.
The minister said, “Mangalagiri Government Hospital had originally been established in 1986 by former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao. Over time, it deteriorated and became limited to outpatient services. Despite repeated appeals and petitions by local residents and committees, no significant upgrades have been made at the hospital until now. With the current building in disrepair, the Mangalagiri hospital will now be relocated to the site of YVC Cancer Hospital in Chinakakani.”
Lokesh said he is spearheading several development and welfare initiatives in his constituency. These include distribution of permanent land titles to 3,000 poor families, underground drainage and water pipelines, gas and electric lines, beautification of lakes and parks, and construction of community halls and marriage halls.
“With 26 major projects already underway, Mangalagiri is fast emerging as a model constituency,” Lokesh underlined.
