Vijayawada: Minister for Education, IT and Electronics N. Lokesh will set the foundation stone for a Model Rythu Bazaar at Mangalagiri in Guntur district on Thursday.

The Rs 18-crore market will come up on 5.90 acres with funds provided by the Aurobindo Pharma Trust under its corporate social responsibility initiative. The facility is planned with a focus on cleanliness, consumer convenience and environment-friendly retail and wholesale operations.

The market will have a built-up area of 71,925 square feet. It will include 102 stalls for retail sale of vegetables, 54 stalls for fruits and flowers and 60 shops for other products.

The wholesale section will have 18 unloading platforms, 23 vegetable shops and a 61.4-square-metre cold storage facility. Vegetable washing areas, a 190-square-metre canteen and 130-square-metre public toilets will also be provided.

The complex will have parking for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, besides facilities including a water sump, overhead tank, septic tank, transformer, generator and garbage collection system. An organic waste converter and terrace solar panels are also planned.
