Loan Harassment: Five Held In Woman Suicide Case

VIJAYAWADA: Five persons were arrested on charges of forcibly collecting high interest from a woman and subjecting her to sexual harassment, which allegedly drove her to die by suicide, under the Tadepalli police station limits in Guntur district on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were identified as Dukka Venugopal, Dukka Srinivasa Rao, Sannidhi Bachi Prasad, Bankipali Ramakrishna Sarma, and Viswanath Ravi Kumar.

According to Tadepalli police, the deceased was Addanki Krishnaveni, 37, a resident of Nukalapeta village. Her husband, Jayakrishna Teja, had borrowed ₹50,000 in 2016 from the accused Venugopal and Srinivasa Rao. Though the accused allegedly collected about ₹15 lakh in the form of exorbitant interest, they continued to harass her for more money and even took blank cheques and promissory notes from her.

In her suicide note and a selfie video recorded on her mobile phone, Krishnaveni stated that Venugopal and Bachi Prasad had subjected her to sexual harassment. On August 14, she took the extreme step and died by suicide.
