Life Convict Escapes From Nellore Open Jail
The incident came to light during the routine evening headcount after work hours

Nellore: A life convict lodged at the open prison facility of Nellore Central Jail went missing on Saturday evening, prompting a search operation by the police.
According to Jail Superintendent Dr V. Sanyasi Rao, the absconding inmate has been identified as Shaik Chinna Syedulu (60), a native of Palnadu district. He was serving a life sentence in a case related to the murder of his wife and is survived by two daughters.
Convicted in 2022, Syedulu was initially lodged at Rajahmundry Central Jail before being transferred to Nellore Central Jail in 2024. Owing to his good conduct, prison authorities had shifted him to the open jail, where he was engaged in agricultural work.
The incident came to light during the routine evening headcount after work hours, when jail staff found him missing. The Superintendent said the matter was immediately reported to the police.
Following the report, Venkatachalam police launched a search operation to trace the absconding prisoner, while jail authorities have tightened internal checks.
