NELLORE: An incident at Narayana College in Renigunta has caused a social media buzz as a mathematics lecturer thrashed some Intermediate second-year (MPC) students for their poor performance in a pre-public examination.

The lecturer beat a student with a stick and hit some other students inside the campus as they did not write the correct answers in a model exam conducted ahead of the public examinations.

The video footage of the incident posted on X swiftly began taking the rounds on social media.

Student organisations condemned the assault, accusing the college management of fostering an atmosphere of fear and academic pressure. They staged a protest on the campus, seeking the suspension of the lecturer.

Rayalaseema students’ association leaders denounced the attack and urged the Regional Intermediate Officer to take firm action against the teacher. Representatives from YSR Students Union (SVU), NSUI and BC student groups also joined the protest.

The police in Renigunta and Tirupati said they have not received any complaint.
