Lapses In Murder Probe: Nellore SP Transfers Entire Police Station Staff

The action follows allegations that the police failed to properly investigate the suspicious death of mandal agriculture officer

In a sweeping disciplinary action, SPSR Nellore district Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vejendla has transferred the entire staff of Buchireddypalem Police Station, citing their negligence in investigating a murder case.

The murder was initially sought to be projected as a death.
Some 23 police personnel attached to the station were shifted to other places on Monday. Circle Inspector, Matangi Srinivasa Rao, has been attached to the IG office, while the SI sent to the SP's office. The remaining station staff has also been transferred as part of a complete overhaul of the station.
The action follows allegations that the police failed to properly investigate the suspicious death of mandal agriculture officer Srihari, who died on June 15 while returning by car from Penchalakona. The death was initially treated as a cardiac arrest.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Srihari was murdered by his brother-in-law, who allegedly administered a lethal injection—reportedly used to kill dogs—in a bid to gain control of the family property.

Allegations however surfaced that the murder angle was ignored by the police despite early suspicions. Following reports of investigative lapses, the SP ordered stringent action against the police station staff.

The unprecedented wholesale transfer of cops has sent a strong message across the district police force, putting officers on alert and underscoring the department's commitment to accountability and professional investigation standards, it is noted.

Ex-minister’s son surrenders in accident case

After failure of a coverup bid of a fatal road accident in Palasa-Kasibugga area, Sidiri Aarav Varma, the son of YSRC leader and former minister Sidiri Appalaraju, surrendered before the police on Monday.
It may be recalled that 45-year-old- shepherd Dhanayya was killed after he was hit by a bike near Kasibugga on July 10 night. Soon after the fatal road mishap, a youngster identified as Siddhartha, the friend of Aarav, surrendered before the police, claiming that he was responsible for the fatal road accident. The police seized the high-end bike, took him into custody, and later granted him station bail.
However, videos purportedly showing Aarav riding the motorcycle and refueling it at a nearby fuel tank shortly before the accident surfaced on social media, triggering public outrage.
After examining the CCTV footage, the police observed that Aarav was responsible for the fatal road accident and escaped from the spot in a car after the road accident.
As Aarav’s involvement in the case was established, the police registered a case against him. The police said Aarav surrendered before the police and the investigation was on.
Minister for MSME Koindapalli Srinivas and Palasa MLA Gouthu Sirisha visited Danayya’s family and handed over a cheque for Rs 10 lakh on behalf of the Telugu Desam Party.
He condemned the former minister's bid to save his son stating that it was unbecoming of a political leader to mislead the police.

Hostel welfare officer suspended for making students carry construction material

Polavaram district collector K. Dinesh Kumar on Monday suspended Scheduled Castes hostel welfare officer A. Durga Pavan of the Gowridevipeta hostel in Yetapaka mandal after a departmental inquiry found that students had been made to carry cement bags and undertake construction-related work.

The inquiry was ordered after reports of hostel students being engaged in carrying construction materials surfaced.

The district collector warned that stringent action would be taken against officials who engage students in any work unrelated to their education. He said safeguarding the rights, safety and dignity of students was the responsibility of every official and cautioned that similar incidents in any school or hostel would invite strict departmental action.

TD leaders clash over incharge posts

A meeting organised by the Telugu Desam party to finalise constituency incharges for Punganur and Thamballapalle in Annamayya district ended in violence after differences among party leaders and workers erupted.

This forced the leaders to stop the discussions held at a hotel in Tirupati on Tuesday as part of the party's organisational exercise ahead of the local body elections.

The TD leadership has been reviewing its district structure and collecting feedback from grassroots leaders before appointing new constituency incharges. Around 800 party leaders and workers from the two assembly constituencies attended the meeting.

District incharge minister BC Janardhan Reddy, transport minister Ramprasad Reddy, party observer Damacharla Satya and SAAP chairman Ravi Naidu were present to hear their views.

The main dispute was over a proposed replacement of Punganur constituency incharge Challa Ramachandra Reddy. Party leaders were considering Madhusudan Naidu or Venkata Ramana Raju for the post. Supporters of Challa Babu objected to the move, leading to arguments that soon turned into a physical clash. One party worker suffered serious injuries.

As the clashes intensified, TD workers allegedly attacked media personnel filming the incident, leaving five lensmen injured. Journalists staged a protest outside the hotel, demanding the arrest of those responsible. Following the violence and disruption, the party leadership called off the feedback session on the Punganur constituency.

The meeting also failed to resolve the issue of appointing a new constituency incharge for Thamballapalle, where factional rivalry remained evident. Former MLA Shankar Yadav, Kondreddy and Surendra Yadav are among those in the race for the post.

Supporters of senior leader Jayachandra Reddy continued to press his case despite his removal as constituency incharge a few months ago following allegations of his involvement in a liquor scam.

According to party sources, the decision to invite the Shankar Yadav group into the meeting hall first drew objections from the Jayachandra faction. Although members of both groups later took part in the discussions, the meeting ended without a resolution.

AI based surveillance helps police crack several cases in AP

Andhra Pradesh’s AI-based surveillance ecosystem with 14,750 CCTV cameras installed across the state is helping the police to crack several cases like infant abduction, vehicle theft and other crimes.

The AI-based surveillance ecosystem has been integrated with the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) through the advanced CCTV360 platform, so that this would help the surveillance systems not just to record footage. The CCTV360 uses AI to analyse vehicle movements, identify travel patterns, generate instant alerts and provide actionable intelligence to the law enforcement agencies.

In Guntur, a Honda Activa scooter was stolen from the Pattabhipuram police station limits. When the case was referred to the RTGS CCTV360, the AI platform using the vehicle registration number scanned the integrated surveillance network and detected the scooter moving through a major junction in Guntur. Within seconds, a real-time alert was sent to the police.

The suspect was intercepted and arrested immediately. In the course of interrogation, he confessed to lifting seven other vehicles.

In another case, a six-month-old infant abducted from a pavement in Chirala was reunited with his mother within 24 hours.

In a third case, a missing woman was traced and reunited with her family after investigators received crucial technical assistance.

The platform has also emerged as an important asset in locating missing individuals. The success of RTGS CCTV360 illustrates how AI could significantly strengthen governance when combined with the robust public infrastructure and responsive policing. Beyond the crime investigation, the platform has the potential to support traffic management, emergency response, disaster management and urban security.
