Andhra Pradesh: Lab Technician Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on Patient

Visakhapatnam: A lab technician at Care Hospital in Visakhapatnam has been accused of sexually assaulting a patient who sought treatment following an accident. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday at Siripuram Junction, where two women on two-wheelers were involved in a collision. After being admitted to the hospital, one of the women was required to undergo a brain scan. During the procedure, the lab technician allegedly misbehaved with her, asking her to remove her clothing.
According to a colleague of the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, the woman was admitted to the hospital around 6:30 pm. Although a scanning room was available in the emergency department, the victim was taken to the first floor for the scan. The colleague also stated that the victim was urged not to disclose the incident, and the hospital management reportedly threatened them and instructed them to speak with the police.
Three town circle inspector Bhaskar confirmed that the accused, identified as Prakash Rao, has been arrested. A case has been registered against him, and he has been remanded into custody.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed serious concern regarding the harassment of a woman by staff at a scanning center in Visakhapatnam. He has instructed officials to take immediate action against those responsible for the misconduct. The CM has issued a stern warning emphasising the need for strict measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
