VIJAYAWADA: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Kurnool convicted former panchayat raj assistant engineer Bandaru Chinna Pullaiah in a bribery case and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of `2 lakh.
According to ACB officials, the complainant, G. Lakshmipathi of Venkata Narayanapalli village in Amadaguru mandal of Anantapur district, had undertaken two CC road works worth `10 lakh at Seethireddypalli village under MGNREGS.
The works were sanctioned in 2017 to Venkata Narayanapalli village sarpanch K. Venkata Ramana, who later entrusted them as sub-contract works to the complainant in May 2018. The works were completed by July 2018.
Officials said the complainant approached the then assistant engineer, Bandaru Chinna Pullaiah, to process and forward the bills to senior officers for sanction of payment. It is alleged that the official demanded a bribe of `30,000 for clearing the bills.
