The main aim of AP-GREEN is to increase forest & tree cover to 50% by 2047 in Andhra Pradesh.

VIJAYAWADA: Legislative Council member Konidela Nagendra Rao, popularly known as Nagababu, has been appointed chairman of the executive committee of the Andhra Pradesh Society for Greening and Reforestation for Ecological Enrichment (AP Green), with cabinet rank.

The state environment and forests department issued GO-Rt-93 on Monday to this effect.

AP Green has been tasked with increasing Andhra Pradesh’s green cover, including forests and tree cover, to 50 per cent of the state’s geographical area by 2047 as part of the Viksit Andhra Pradesh-2047 vision. The initiative will focus on forest conservation, afforestation, reforestation and environmental protection.

The government is also setting up a governing board, executive committee and district-level governing bodies to ensure effective implementation across the state.

As chairman, Nagababu will coordinate with various departments and district-level agencies, accelerate implementation of green initiatives and monitor their progress. The system is also aimed at strengthening coordination between district-level bodies and statewide greening and reforestation programmes.

Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan congratulated Nagababu and expressed confidence that the 50 per cent green-cover target would be pursued with dedication under his leadership. Pawan Kalyan thanked chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for appointing Nagababu with cabinet rank and the alliance partners for their support.

He said the initiatives would help build a greener Andhra Pradesh and safeguard the environment for future generations.
