Kondu Tribal Stage Protest On Horseback For Road Connectivity

VISAKHAPATNAM: Around 120 Kondu tribal people belonging to Pasuvula Banda, Jeedigullova and Sompuram Bandalu villages in Ravikamatham and V. Madugula mandals staged a protest on horsebacks along three kilometres on Thursday demanding road connectivity and basic facilities at their hilltop villages.
PVTG association leader Sedari Kameswara Rao pointed out that while the state government is focusing on highways and airports, basic amenities in tribal hamlets remain neglected while the country is nearing 80 years of its Independence.
He wanted the government to provide access by road to Samalamma Hill, where their villages are located, an Anganwadi centre, and posting of an ASHA worker immediately.
Kameswara Rao said villagers have submitted written appeals to the Chodavaram-Madugula constituency MLA during the latter’s visits. But no action has been taken.
“We requested the legislator to recognise us as human beings and provide road facilities. Concrete roads are being built for cattle in the plains, but not for us who live in the hills,” he remarked.
District Tribal Association honorary president K. Govinda Rao, along with villagers Gemila Vasu, Vanthala Dasu, Sedari Chilukamma, Sedari Rajababu, and Kurra Balaraju, among others, participated in the protest.
