KMC to Enforce New Construction or Demolition Waste Policy
The commissioner warned that strict action will be taken against violators who continue dumping construction waste on roads and streets even after the introduction of the new C&D policy.

Kurnool: Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) will strictly enforce its new construction and demolition (C&D) waste policy, which came into effect on August 1.
Municipal commissioner P. Viswanath has asked various stakeholder departments to work in close coordination to ensure its effective implementation.
Under the new system, KMC itself will arrange vehicles for collecting construction waste and moving it to the dump yards. Citizens who require the service will have to pay Rs 500 for a tractor and Rs 1,000 for a tipper vehicle. These vehicles can be booked through a dedicated phone number, which will be announced soon.
The Kurnool commissioner made it clear that no construction waste should be dumped on city roads, as it obstructs traffic and causes inconvenience to the public. He regretted that many city roads are currently littered with heaps of construction debris and sand, creating serious trouble for commuters.
To address this, the new C&D policy makes it mandatory for house owners or builders to take full responsibility for shifting the construction waste to the designated dumping yards on outskirts of the city. They will have to pay the required charges based on the quantity of waste generated.
Viswanath said some individuals are dumping debris on city roads and streets. This practice will no longer be tolerated. Anyone found storing or dumping waste in open areas will be penalised under the new rules.
To strengthen enforcement of the C&D policy, three ward secretaries will be deployed as a team within the jurisdiction of each Sachivalayam. In addition, nodal officers will be appointed for every ward to ensure proper monitoring and supervision.
The commissioner warned that strict action will be taken against violators who continue dumping construction waste on roads and streets even after the introduction of the new C&D policy.
