Kia Rolls Out Sorento SUV at Penukonda Plant
Premium three-row SUV to hit Indian market on Sept. 4, while production to begin at its Penukonda manufacturing facility
Anantapur: Kia India on Thursday unveiled the first official images of its premium flagship SUV, the Kia Sorento, and commenced production of the model at its Penukonda manufacturing facility ahead of its India launch.
The first locally produced Sorento rolled off the production line on Thursday. The three-row SUV will be launched in India on September 4, with pre-bookings already open through Kia India dealerships and its official website.
The Sorento will be Kia’s first hybrid SUV in India with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. It will also be offered with a diesel powertrain.
A key highlight is the Kia AI Assistant, powered by Live Generative AI. Kia said the India-bound Sorento will be the first model globally to introduce the technology.
Prices of the new model are yet to be announced.
Kia India began mass production at its Penukonda plant in August 2019. The facility has an annual installed production capacity of 4 lakh vehicles and has so far dispatched nearly 1.9 million vehicles, including over 3.67 lakh exports.
