Keshav Asks Centre For Funds For Development of Amaravati, Rayalaseema, Inter-linking of Rivers

The minister asked for an allotment of Rs 5,000 crore in the Union Budget for development of Visakhapatnam as regional financial capital and to extend support for interlinking of rivers and financial support for Nallamalla-Polavaram Link Project.

Vijayawada: Minister of finance and legislative affairs Payyavula Keshav has sought the Central government to allot more funds for development of capital city Amaravati, interlinking of rivers and to take up a compressive development of Rayalaeema region in Andhra Pradesh.

The minister called on the Union minister of finance Nirmala Sitharama in New Delhi on Saturday and submitted a representation with several proposals for development of AP during the pre-Union Budget meeting.

The minister asked for an allotment of Rs 5,000 crore in the Union Budget for development of Visakhapatnam as regional financial capital and to extend support for interlinking of rivers and financial support for Nallamalla-Polavaram Link Project.

He asked for sanction of revenue grants in huge amounts and to allot funds for the schemes like Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment and Purvodaya.

The minister informed the Union finance minister that with the financial aid of `15,000 crore from the Centre in the last year, they had resumed developmental works at Amaravati and called for sanction of funds from Hudco and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and also allotment of funds for Polavaram-Nallamalla Link Project in the Union Budget as it was estimated to cost `58,700 crore to ensure supply of drinking water to the drought-hit areas and to meet industrial needs mainly in Rayalaseema region. The minister referred to the Central government taking up interlinking of 11 rivers in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of `40,000 crore and wanted a similar support to AP also.
