Keen Contest In Kurnool, Nandyal ZPTC/MPTC Polls, NDA To Bag Kadapa

Ruling alliance candidates have been elected unanimously from 23 of 39 ZPTC seats in Kadapa district: Reports

KADAPA: There is a contrasting scenario in holding elections for zilla parishad and mandal parishad territorial councils seats on Thursday in Kadapa, Kurnool, and Nandyal districts. The ruling alliance is in command in Kadapa district, while it will have to face keen contests from the YSRC in Kurnool and Nandyal districts.

In Kadapa district, elections will largely be a formality, as the NDA alliance has already won 23 of the 39 ZPTC seats unanimously. This is an unprecedented development in the district, where the writ of the YS family used to be the last word.

In the 2026 elections, however, the ruling alliance has secured more than enough seats to capture the Zilla Parishad chairperson post, which will be filled through an indirect election involving the elected ZPTC members. The elections in Kadapa on Thursday will be only a formality. However, TD legislators are keen to win all the remaining seats in Kadapa district and consolidate the Telugu Desam Party’s position across the region.

All the six ZPTC seats in Pulivendula Assembly constituency, represented by former chief minister and YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, have been won by the ruling alliance. The alliance had similar victories in ZPTC segments within Kamalapuram, Jammalamadugu, Proddatur, Mydukur, and Rayachoti. Several MPTC seats have also gone unopposed to the ruling party. There is thus a limited scope for a major contest in Kadapa district.

The situation is different in neighbouring Kurnool district, where YSRC and alliance candidates are fighting for all the 26 ZPTC seats. Leaders and workers of the ruling alliance and YSRC are mobilising their voters for securing secure victories.

In Nandyal district, two of the 28 ZPTC seats have been elected unanimously, while elections will be held for the remaining 26 seats.

Telugu Desam is particularly concerned about the developments in Nandyal following the recent municipal elections. YSRC has won the Bethamcherla and Nandikotkur municipalities, while the TD had to make considerable efforts to win the Dhone and Nandyal municipalities. This has reportedly prompted the ruling TD leadership to pay special attention to Nandyal district for the ZPTC and MPTC elections on Thursday.
