Kanaka Durga Temple Hundi Yields Rs 3.09 Crore In 16 Days
The hundis were last opened on August 24 and the latest counting was taken up on September 9: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, popularly known as Kanaka Durga temple, received ₹3,08,81,464 in cash offerings through its hundis during a 16-day period, according to temple authorities.
The hundis were last opened on August 24 and the latest counting was taken up on September 9. The collection included ₹2,96,33,664 in currency notes and ₹12,47,800 in coins. The average daily collection was ₹19,30,091.50.
Devotees also offered 301 grams of gold and 3.010 kg of silver during the period. The offerings included foreign currency from devotees from India and abroad.
The foreign currency comprised 1,840 US dollars, seven Malaysian ringgit, 870 UAE dirhams, six Singapore dollars, 215 euros, 170 British pounds, 610 Turkish lira, 0.50 Kuwaiti dinar, 91 Qatari riyals, 300 Omani baisa, 190 Canadian dollars, 100 New Zealand dollars and 380 Australian dollars.
The temple’s hundi records showed that no old-denomination Indian currency notes of ₹2,000, ₹1,000 or ₹500 were received during the latest opening.
