Kakinada Gynaecologists Hold Walkathon for Doctors’ Safety

Kakinada: The Kakinada Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) organised a walkathon on Sunday to mark ‘Abhaya Day’ and raise awareness about the safety of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers.

‘Abhaya Day’ commemorates the postgraduate medical student who was murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9, 2024. The programme sought to reaffirm the need for a safe working environment for medical professionals.

Kakinada district collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, who participated in the event presided over by KOGS president Dr A.L. Satyavathi, said the government would take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of doctors and medical staff.

Third additional district Judge Ms Anandini said doctors and healthcare workers should take necessary precautions for their own safety while attending to patients, noting that emotions could run high in society.

Director of medical education A. Vishnu Vardhan said the government would take steps to strengthen security for doctors and medical staff. He urged healthcare workers to immediately inform the police about any security concerns and said CCTV cameras were being installed in medical colleges and hospitals to enhance security.
