Kakinada Gateway Port to Be Completed by June 2026

The minister said that there is a proposal to seamlessly link R&B, Railways and Port departments, but certain issues need to be sorted out.

Kakinada: Infrastructure minister B.C. Janardhana Reddy on Saturday declared that the Kakinada Gateway Port, being constructed at a cost of Rs 2,621 crores within the Kakinada Special Economic Zone in Perumallapuram of Thondangi mandal in Kakinada district, will be completed by June 2026.

He instructed the port operators to accordingly draw plans and complete the port within the deadline set.

The minister visited the Kakinada Gateway Port, Anchorage Port and Uppada Fishing Harbour on Saturday, along with Maritime Board chairman Damacharla Satya, chief executive officer Pravin Adithya, MLC Karri Padmasri, Peddapuram MLA Nimmakayala China Rajappa and Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao (Kondababu), among others.

Later, he informed media that Kakinada Gateway Port is being constructed by Aurobindo Infra, holding a share of 74 per cent, and GMR with 26 per cent share. The state government will have a revenue share of 2.7 per cent, which will be increased in a phased manner – 5.4 per cent from 31 to 40 years and 10.80 per cent from 40 to 50 years.

Janardhana Reddy pointed out that already 28 per cent of works on the port have been completed and the remaining works will be completed by 2026.

He explained that the port will have three berths, one dedicated for coal and the other two for general cargo. Replying to a question, he said there are some land issues, which the maritime and revenue officials will sort out.

Speaking about the Kakinada Anchorage Port, the minister said the previous year, the port exported 3.88 MMT rice to other countries. While the port earned Rs 61 crore during 2022–23, the same increased to Rs 68 crore in 2024–25.

Janardhana Reddy announced the Uppada Fishing Harbour, being constructed at a cost of ₹361 crore, will be completed within five months.
