Kakinada Constable Dies by Suicide, Harassment Alleged

Vamsi’s father alleged that his son was being harassed by a female constable with whom he had a previous acquaintance, claiming she pressured him to marry her and threatened him with job loss if he did not

Rajamahendravaram: A 31-year-old Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) constable, identified as Chandramalla Vamsi, died by suicide after allegedly jumping from a bridge into the Godavari River in Rajamahendravaram recently. According to police, the incident came to light after his body was recovered on Saturday morning following an extensive search operation carried out by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams.

Family members have raised serious allegations regarding the circumstances leading to his death, citing harassment from the police department and a female colleague. As per reports, Vamsi, who hailed from Srirampur of East Godavari district, was a constable in the APSP third battalion in Kakinada. His family members were about to perform his engagement with a girl.

Vamsi’s father claimed that his son had been facing harassment from a female constable who was known to him. He alleged that she had been pressuring Vamsi to marry her and threatening him with consequences, including the loss of his job, if he refused. She filed a complaint against him at the Women's Police Station in
Rajamahendravaram. Department officials had called him, questioned him about this, and counselled him several times. On Thursday ( June 18), they called him once again and counselled him. On the same day, Vamsi called his father and allegedly jumped into the Godavari River. Based on information from family members, the police rushed to the bridge and found his bike and footwear there. The
SDRF teams conducted search operations on Friday and finally recovered the body on Saturday.
Based on the complaint lodged by the family, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities stated that all angles, including the harassment allegations, are being thoroughly examined.
The body has been shifted to the Government Hospital in Rajamahendravaram for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
