Kakani Says Public Outraged With Nellore District Reorganisation
Kakani Govardhan Reddy says move ignores public sentiment and causes hardship

Nellore: YSRC leaders held a meeting with former minister and YSRC SPSR Nellore district president Dr. Kakani Govardhan Reddy at the party office in Nellore on Wednesday over separation of Kaluvayi, Rapur and Saidapuram mandals from Nellore district.
Following the meeting, Govardhan Reddy strongly objected to these districts being merged into the Tirupati district. The former minister accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring public sentiment while reorganising the districts.
He recalled that before the 2024 assembly elections, Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh had promised to retain the Gudur constituency in Nellore district. But now they have reneged on their promise.
Govardhan Reddy said shifting Kaluvayi, Rapur and Saidapuram to Tirupati district will cause severe hardships, forcing people to travel nearly 150 km to the district headquarters. It will disrupt irrigation and revenue linkages with Nellore farmers.
He maintained that these mandals are geographically, agriculturally and administratively aligned with Nellore district. Their separation will adversely impact Sarvepalli farmers, particularly when it comes to irrigation. He pointed out that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as chief minister, while forming new districts, had retained these three mandals in Nellore district.
The former minister accused TD leaders of remaining silent despite injustice to Nellore district. Specifically, he criticised MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy for “symbolic opposition” without exerting pressure on Chief Minister Naidu.
He maintained that this decision is fuelling unrest in the otherwise peaceful areas of the district.
