Kaikaluru Residents Want Merger Back into Krishna

Villagers said that although they now fall under Eluru district, their properties, services and children’s education remain tied to Krishna district

Vijayawada: Villagers from Peddapalaparru and Koduru have appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to merge Kaikaluru Assembly Constituency back into Krishna district, recalling his election promise to restore the area to its original jurisdiction.
They said the reorganisation of districts had severely affected administrative access. Gudivada, the nearest revenue division, is only 5–7 km away, while Machilipatnam, the Krishna district headquarters, is 30 km away. After being moved to Eluru district, however, both the revenue division and headquarters are nearly 70 km away.
Villagers said that although they now fall under Eluru district, their properties, services and children’s education remain tied to Krishna district. This mismatch, they noted, is causing difficulties in documentation, certificate verification, job applications and overseas travel.
Kaikaluru MLA Kamineni Srinivas had written to the cabinet sub-committee seeking the constituency’s merger back into Krishna district, and the proposal was accepted. However, during Tuesday’s district reorganisation discussions, the issue was set aside, deeply disappointing the villagers.
The residents said that being part of Krishna district is not only an administrative necessity but also a matter of identity and self-respect. If a full merger is not possible, they are urging that at least Peddapalaparru and Koduru be retained within Krishna district.
