Kadapa Stakeholders Urge Retention Of Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank Headquarters Amid Regional Rural Banks Merger

The call to retain Kadapa as headquarters also stems from the region’s historical neglect. However, the headquarters of the merged RRBs is set to shift to Vijayawada from May 1.

ANANTAPUR: The amalgamation of four Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in Andhra Pradesh under the “One State, One Regional Rural Bank” initiative has positioned Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank (APGB) as the lead entity, with Canara Bank as the sponsor.

Stakeholders have urged that Kadapa, APGB’s current headquarters, remain the hub of the merged entity, citing the bank’s infrastructure, performance, and regional significance.

Established in 2006, APGB covers Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nellore, and Prakasam districts. It operates from a purpose-built head office in Kadapa, featuring an RBI-approved currency chest and 47,000 sq ft of administrative space.

APGB has emerged as the top-performing RRB in India for digital services, with offerings including internet banking, mobile banking, and QR code payments. It also boasts zero net NPAs and strong rural outreach through schemes like KCC and Mudra loans.

The call to retain Kadapa as headquarters also stems from the region’s historical neglect. However, the headquarters of the merged RRBs is set to shift to Vijayawada from May 1.
