Jonnagiri Gold Mines Renamed Swarnagiri Gold Mines
Officials said the decision was taken to reflect the region's cultural heritage and historical significance while highlighting its local identity
KURNOOL: The Andhra Pradesh government has renamed the Jonnagiri Gold Mines in Jonnagiri village of Pattikonda constituency in Kurnool district as ‘Swarnagiri Gold Mines’.
Orders to this effect were issued on Thursday. Officials said the decision was taken to reflect the region's cultural heritage and historical significance while highlighting its local identity.
The government has directed the mining operator, Geomysore Services India Pvt. Ltd., to implement the name change in all official records and operational documents.
The gold mining project was inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on June 23, 2026.
Officials said the project is expected to promote mineral-based industrial activity and generate employment opportunities in the region.
