Joint Task Force To Deal With Obesity In AP
Andhra Pradesh health minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced plans to form a joint task force involving health, education, sports and women welfare departments to tackle rising obesity and metabolic health concerns.

Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav has expressed concern over a major public health challenge in the form of obesity and vowed to set up a joint task force to deal with it.
Addressing a gathering at the state level multi-stakeholder conference on obesity and metabolic health held by the confederation of Indian industry here on Thursday, the health minister said that the increasing changes in the lifestyle was a reason.
“The more the wealth, the more the spread of obesity among the people. If this is neglected, it may affect public health, productivity and economic growth.
Quoting AP’s status, he said that as per national family health survey-6, as many as 47.90 per cent of women and 44.40 men were overweight. “Lack of adequate body movement, over-eating, usage of ultra-processed food items and sugary beverages, work-related stress and more screen time on a mobile phone are all reasons for obesity,” he said.
The minister promised to deal with obesity by forming a joint task force involving the health, education, sports and women welfare departments. “We are strengthening the food safety department to help the people get quality food items.”
Quoting the non-communicable diseases survey, the minister said 59 lakh people are suffering from blood pressure and 48 lakh people live with diabetes in the state. “We are making efforts to take up preventive steps.”
