Joint Inspections Held at Hotels Along Gudur Highway

Authorities said such inspections would continue regularly to ensure food safety and protect consumer rights

Nellore: Officials of the civil supplies, legal metrology and food safety departments conducted joint inspections at hotels and restaurants along the National Highway in Gudur of SPSR Nellore district on Saturday following complaints received during the public grievance redressal programme.

Officials inspected food quality, hygiene, expiry dates, storage practices, kitchen cleanliness, drinking water facilities and staff hygiene. They also verified the use of commercial LPG cylinders and checked weighing machines and measuring equipment for accuracy and certification seals.

Food safety officials found expired food packets in one hotel kitchen and registered a case. Around 15 kg of stored non-vegetarian food was destroyed for violating food safety norms.

Officials also directed hotels at Vidyanagar Circle not to store food items in plastic carry bags inside refrigerators.

Legal metrology officials booked two cases against restaurants for using weighing machines without proper verification seals. An improvement notice was issued to another restaurant over unhygienic kitchen conditions.

Officials instructed hotel managements to maintain cleanliness in kitchens and dining areas, conduct regular pest control through authorised agencies and ensure proper food storage, safe drinking water and hygienic cooking practices.

They also directed establishments to prominently display FSSAI licences and maintain consumer complaint registers.

Authorities said such inspections would continue regularly to ensure food safety and protect consumer rights.
