Jogi Ramesh’s House Torched, Jagan Alleges ‘Jungle Raj’

Flames and thick smoke were seen billowing into the skies, spreading panic among residents

Vijayawada: A day after the shocking murder-attempt on senior YSRC leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu, another flare-up on Sunday saw the residence of former minister Jogi Ramesh at Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district being vandalised and set ablaze by a mob.
The two incidents in succession, involving Telugu Desam goons, raised tempers across the state and caused fears of a breakdown of law and order in the state.
Hundreds of suspected Telugu Desam supporters descended on Jogi Ramesh’s house, ransacked the premises, damaged household articles and hurled petrol bombs and set the building on fire.
Flames and thick smoke were seen billowing into the skies, spreading panic among residents. Flex banners erected outside the house were torn down during the attack.
At the time, Jogi Ramesh’s father, wife and children were inside the house, while the former minister was in Tirupati - at the residence of former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.
YSRC leaders Devineni Avinash, ex-MLA Monditoka Jaganmohan Rao and others tried to rush to the house of Jogi Ramesh but the police foiled their attempts by arresting them.
YSRC leaders alleged that the police remained as spectators during the assault, without intervening despite the large-scale violence.
They said the back-to-back attacks on two former ministers within 48 hours pointed to a systematic attempt to intimidate the opposition and reflected a complete breakdown of governance.
YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the incidents, terming them signs of a “jungle raj” in the state.
In a post on X, he said the government, unable to tolerate questioning even after allegations were disproved by central laboratories such as NDDB and NDRI, resorted to violence. “By lighting these fires, the government set fire to itself,” he warned, adding that public anger was mounting and such lawlessness would eventually meet its end.
Expressing anguish, Jogi Ramesh alleged a conspiracy to murder his family. Addressing the media from Tirupati, he accused the government of Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh of orchestrating such attacks using the “ganja and blade gangs”. “Did they want to burn me and my children alive?” he asked, asserting that intimidation would not force the YSRC to abandon its flag or its commitment to the people.
