Vijayawada: A 26-year-old man, Gaddam Siva Manikanta, stabbed his girlfriend’s father K. Sriramachandra Prasad (56) with a knife in Brindavan Colony under Krishna Lanka police station limits of Vijayawada on Thursday night after the latter rejected Manikanta’s proposal to marry his daughter.
According to the Krishna Lanka police, Prasad and his daughter had been returning on their bike from their stationery shop on Thursday night.
Manikanta dashed into Prasad’s bike and took out a knife. Seeing this, Prasad’s daughter Sri Darshini confronted her boyfriend. However, Manikanta indiscriminately stabbed Prasad on his face, inflicting severe injuries, and fled, police said.
Prasad was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police said Manikanta worked as a physical education teacher at Vignan Vihar School and developed an acquaintance with Darshini while she did her Intermediate. As the friendship between the two grew stronger, Manikanta proposed to Darshini that he wished to marry her. He threatened to kill her if she did not marry him.
Seeing such behaviour, Darshini complained to her father about Manikanta. Following this, Prasad, along with his neighbours, went to Manikanta's residence in Vidyadharapuram and warned him of dire consequences if he interfered into his daughter's life.
Enraged, Manikanta attacked Sriramachandra in Brindavan Colony and killed him.
Krishna Lanka police have registered a case under Sections 302, 307, and 354(d) of IPC. They are searching for Manikanta who is on the run.
