Jangareddygudem, Eluru Teams Clinch Titles in Sir Arthur Cotton Boat Races

Kakinada:The Jangareddygudem and Eluru teams emerged winners in the Sir Arthur Cotton Dragon Boat Race competitions, held at the Lolla Locks main canal near Atreyapuram in Konaseema district, with the finals conducted on Tuesday.
Yerra Kalva of the Jangareddygudem team won first place in the 500-metre race, while Bandaru Balagam of the Eluru team secured the top position in the 1,000-metre race. A total of 22 teams took part in the two-day competition.
In the 500-metre event, the Kurnool team finished second and Palnadu placed third. In the 1,000-metre race, Palnadu secured second place and Konaseema finished third.
The prize money for the 500-metre race was `70,000 for first place, `50,000 for second and `30,000 for third. In the 1,000-metre race, the first-place team received `2 lakh, the second `1 lakh and the third `50,000.
Union Minister of State for Mines and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma presented the prizes and congratulated the winners. He said Kothapeta in Konaseema had gained national and international recognition through the Sankranti Sambaralu and water sports events and assured efforts would be made to develop the area as a tourism hub with Central assistance.
Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh said Andhra Pradesh would be developed into a world tourism hub and that the tourism sector would be accorded industry status. He added that Atreyapuram had earned global recognition for its boat races.
