Jana Sena Vying for Deputy Mayor’s Post in GVMC

Party cites role in mayor’s win, growing strength in GVMC for claim

Visakhapatnam: The race for the deputy mayor’s position in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has intensified with Jana Sena asserting its claim over the post.

Jana Sena corporator (Ward 22) Peetala Murthy Yadav has formally called on Jana Sena Party chief and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan to ensure that the deputy mayor’s post goes to their party.

In a letter, Murthy Yadav highlighted Jana Sena’s pivotal role in the recent no-confidence motion and election of the mayor belonging to the TDP, reinforcing the eligibility of JS for the deputy mayor’s post in GVMC.

With an increasing number of GVMC corporators shifting to Jana Sena’s fold, the JS corporator emphasised the party’s sustained four-year battle in opposition and its commitment to safeguarding taxpayer interests as critical qualifications for JS getting the deputy mayor’s post.

In his letter, Murthy Yadav reiterated his zero-expectation principle, urging the party to select a deserving candidate as deputy mayor while excluding himself from the race. “My stance aligns with the party values and the goal of preserving integrity, while prioritising systemic change within GVMC.”

Jana Sena corporators are unified in their push for representation in the council. They argue that GVMC, the largest municipal body, is strategically vital in steering the party’s growth across other local governance structures.
