Jana Sena Says No to 2024 NDA Poll Formula in Local Body Elections

Those decisions, he said, had been taken solely to strengthen the NDA and ensure public welfare.

VIJAYAWADA: The chairman of Jana Sena Political Affairs Committee (PAC) Nadendla Manohar on Friday made it clear that the electoral understandings between the NDA alliance partners during the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will not automatically apply to the forthcoming local body elections.

Manohar, who is the AP Civil Supplies minister, however, made it a point to underline that the victory of the NDA alliance will remain the party's primary objective.

Addressing media at Chenchupeta in Tenali, the JS PAC chairman maintained that Jana Sena would field its candidates in areas where the party has a strong organisational base. He said the party would continue to honour the spirit of the NDA alliance by coordinating with its partners.

Manohar pointed out that during the 2024 general elections, Jana Sena president K. Pawan Kalyan had made many sacrifices by stepping back in several constituencies to prevent the anti-government vote from splitting, in line with the commitment made at the Ippatam public meeting. Those decisions, he said, had been taken solely to strengthen the NDA and ensure public welfare.

"It would be incorrect to link the sacrifices made during the general elections with the present local body elections," the PAC chairman observed. He emphasised that local electoral dynamics would be assessed based on the party's strengths and weaknesses at the grassroots level in each area.

The minister declared that the party leadership is fully aware of the aspirations, concerns, and sentiments of its leaders, cadre, and Veera Mahilas. Jana Sena, he asserted, would further strengthen its organisational structure ahead of the local body polls. The party would provide appropriate opportunities to leaders, party workers, and women activists.

Referring to the understanding within the ruling alliance, Manohar disclosed that a meeting of NDA partners had been held two days ago to address minor coordination issues and improve cooperation among the constituent parties.

He clarified that the alliance would work collectively to encourage youth and women, while ensuring that committed grassroots workers receive due recognition. To streamline coordination, special committees would be constituted at the district and parliamentary constituency levels, he stated.

The Jana Sena PAC chief reiterated that decisions on seat-sharing and candidate selection would be finalised through consultations among alliance partners, with the common goal of securing NDA’s victory in the local body elections.
