Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena senior leader Bolisetty Satyanarayana has questioned the Andhra Pradesh government's data centre policy, seeking clarification from IT and electronics minister Nara Lokesh on measures to protect consumers from any future electricity burden.
In a social media post, Satyanarayana criticised the minister’s repeated announcements on attracting data centres and called for greater clarity on the policy framework governing such projects. He said capitalist countries regulate technology companies to safeguard consumer interests and urged the state government to explain the safeguards being put in place.
The Jana Sena leader cautioned against what he termed “destruction in the name of development”, alleging that fishermen, Adivasis and farmers have been displaced due to environmental violations.
He urged the youth to view environmental protection as a shared responsibility and warned that unchecked exploitation of natural resources could lead to long-term consequences.
Referring to international examples, Satyanarayana cited Germany’s Energy Efficiency Act and moratoriums on data centres in parts of the United States. He questioned the rationale behind granting approvals for data centre projects with a proposed power requirement of 6,000 MW when, he claimed, some countries have declined projects requiring much lower power capacity.
