Jagan Politicizing PPP Mode Plan for Medical Colleges: Health Minister

The minister clarified that the state government would hold management rights on these colleges and said 10 states had adopted the PPP mode of development

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav has slammed YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying he was “trying to politicise the development of government medical colleges under public-private-partnership mode, for his own political survival.”

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, the minister said when the present government decided to develop 10 government medical colleges under PPP mode, the YSRC made a hue and cry and started a one crore signature campaign opposing it. But, not many supported this campaign. “Instead, YSRC leaders started scribbling signatures with both their right and left hands on the canvas, to make a false claim of support.”

The minister quoted how the government’s move got support from several quarters like the parliamentary standing committee headed by a Samajwadi party MP, the Niti Aayog, the national medical commission and even Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The minister clarified that the state government would hold management rights on these colleges and said 10 states had adopted the PPP mode of development.

Yadav said that even in the key defence sector, several projects were being taken up with the partnership from private agencies. So, what was wrong in developing medical colleges in PPP mode in AP, he asked and recalled how the international airport in Shamshabad in Hyderabad was developed under PPP mode.
