Jagan Never Opposed Amaravati’s Development: Sajjala

Sajjala accused the government of inflated costs, commission-driven contracts and unnecessary projects

VIJAYAWADA: YSRC state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy on Friday accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of sidelining unresolved issues faced by farmers in Amaravati, even as it hastens to launch the second phase of land pooling. Addressing the media, Ramakrishna Reddy said former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had raised valid questions about the capital project, which the ruling dispensation has failed to answer. Nearly 50,000 acres were pooled in the first phase, but basic infrastructure such as roads, connectivity and plot development remains incomplete, pushing farmers into distress, he alleged. Maintaining that Jagan Mohan Reddy never opposed Amaravati’s development, he said the public could judge the contrast with N. Chandrababu Naidu, who, he alleged, has turned Amaravati into a hub of scams. Ramakrishna Reddy questioned claims that returnable plots were allotted in tank beds and low-lying areas, rendering them unsellable. He said the government was making unrealistic promises to second-phase farmers without resolving first-phase grievances. He further alleged that only about `5,000 crore was spent on Amaravati over five years, while first-phase development alone requires nearly `1 lakh crore. With over `40,000 crore borrowed in Amaravati’s name, Sajjala accused the government of inflated costs, commission-driven contracts and unnecessary projects.
