Jagan Alleges Political Vendetta, Slams TDP Government over Arrests
Jagan questioned the arrest of Alur MLA Virupakshi, alleging that the police raided the legislator's residence at around 2.45 a.m. and arrested him and his son after breaking open the doors
Amaravati: YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday alleged that lawlessness was prevailing in the State under the TDP-led government and accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of misusing the police machinery to target opposition leaders through politically motivated cases.
In a strongly worded statement, Jagan questioned the arrest of Alur MLA Virupakshi, alleging that the police raided the legislator's residence at around 2.45 a.m. and arrested him and his son after breaking open the doors. He claimed that despite the MLA being attacked by TDP workers while responding to a distress call from a YSRCP leader in Nemakallu village of Chippagiri mandal, cases were instead registered against the MLA and YSRCP workers.
The former Chief Minister also questioned the action of police wo seized CCTV hard disks from the MLA's residence, alleging that it was done to prevent footage of the late-night police operation from coming into the public domain.
Jagan further alleged that similar instances of political vendetta were taking place in Srikakulam district, referring to the arrest of former minister Seediri Appalaraju. He claimed that a road accident had been converted into a murder case for political reasons and alleged that cases were subsequently filed against several YSRCP leaders, including Chintada Ravikumar, after he visited Appalaraju's family.
He also accused the government of targeting former Guntur East MLA Shaik Mohammed Mustafa through what he described as a false kidnapping case arising out of a business dispute.
The YSRCP chief alleged that opposition leaders and party workers were being booked whenever they questioned the government. He claimed that the State was witnessing a "police state" where dissent was being suppressed through arrests and criminal cases.
Raising issues concerning the education sector, Jagan sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the DSC-2025 recruitment process and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh.
He also questioned the delay in releasing pending Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena funds and accused the government of failing to fulfil its promise of providing unemployment assistance to youth.
Stating that power and police authority were temporary, Jagan asserted that the YSRCP would continue to stand by those it claimed were victims of political persecution and would continue to oppose what he described as "lawless governance" in the State.
