Vijayawada: Health commissioner G. Veerapandian on Friday said that, on an average, 2.5 lakh pregnant women and lactating mothers are being reached annually through Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) calls under the ‘Kilkari’ programme.
He said the initiative provides health tips to reduce maternal and infant mortality by sharing information on maternal and child care, nutrition, vaccination, protection, family planning and related aspects. Each IVRS call lasts for a minimum of four minutes.
Veerapandian said the programme is being implemented at the national level by the Centre in 13 languages, including Telugu. While phone numbers may change, he clarified that Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) register the details of pregnant women, including mobile numbers, on the national health and family welfare portal, ensuring the calls reach beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, health minister Satya Kumar Yadav called upon district health officials to intensify awareness campaigns on the Kilkari programme to maximise its outreach and impact.
