IRCS Cancer Hospital-Nellore Celebrates Silver Jubilee
Collector lauds IRCS Nellore Cancer Hospital’s selfless service

Nellore: District collector Himanshu Shukla on Wednesday said he was deeply inspired by the selfless service activities of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Nellore unit, while addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of the IRCS Cancer Hospital at its premises here.
The collector said that while officials usually attend public programmes to motivate people, he personally felt motivated by the dedication of the hospital’s doctors and staff. He said he had visited all wings of the hospital and was highly impressed by its infrastructure and the quality of medical care being provided. Noting that several doctors had devoted their lives to service, he said patient welfare was clearly placed above personal gain.
Highlighting the commitment of chief medical officer Dr T. Lakshmi, the Collector said she had been serving the hospital since the inception of the cancer detection centre without concern for remuneration. He remarked that her dedication reflected the true spirit of public service.
Reflecting on the hospital’s 25-year journey, Shukla said its growth could not be attributed to any single individual but was the result of collective efforts and sustained support from the IRCS, medical professionals, donors and the public.
IRCS state president Y.D. Rama Rao said the Nellore Cancer Hospital is the only Indian Red Cross hospital in the country exclusively providing services to cancer patients. He praised the philanthropists of Nellore and paid rich tributes to the hospital’s founder and former IRCS district chairman, Dr A.V. Subhramanyam, for his selfless contribution.
IRCS Nellore district chairman V. Vijaya Kumar Reddy said the hospital’s progress over the past 25 years was a collective achievement. He announced plans for a new hospital building at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore, with local philanthropist Srihari Reddy assuring a ₹1 crore donation.
The collector released the silver jubilee souvenir and felicitated donors and patrons who have supported the hospital since its inception in 2001.
