Intoxicated Youth Climbs Cell Tower, Triggers High Drama in Yerragondapalem
In a dramatic turn, he scaled the tower to the top and continued performing risky stunts for nearly an hour.
Nellore:High tension prevailed in Yerragondapalem town in Markapuram district on Saturday after an intoxicated youth climbed a nearly 150-foot BSNL cell tower located inside the police station premises, triggering panic among police, fire services personnel and locals.
According to police, the youth, identified as Udatala Hanumanthu of Tirumala Colony, allegedly consumed alcohol and ganja before reaching the police station in an inebriated condition. In a dramatic turn, he scaled the tower to the top and continued performing risky stunts for nearly an hour.
As news spread, a large crowd gathered outside the police station, watching the rescue efforts. Police and fire personnel attempted to persuade him to climb down safely, fearing a mishap.
During the operation, sub-inspector M. Devakumar reportedly asked the youth what he wanted, to which he replied, “Please get me some liquor, sir.”
After prolonged counselling involving family members, police managed to bring him down safely. He was later shifted to a government hospital in a 108 ambulance for treatment due to heavy intoxication.
Police subsequently took him into custody and launched an inquiry into the incident.
