VIJAYAWADA: Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered an inquiry into allegations of irregularities against 22 personnel like doctors and nurses at NTR Government Hospital in Anakapalli.
The irregularities occurred in 2020, as per a report from the state anti-corruption bureau that did a surprise inspection of various facilities at the hospital. The inspection exposed governance failures, corruption and supervision lapses during the previous government’s tenure, it was stated.
The ACB’s report, submitted last month, cited unauthorised activities at the hospital canteen, a failure to disclose patient meal records, poor-quality food supply, violations in civil work contracts, and the absence of proper attendance and supervision systems for staff.
Based on this, the minister called for an immediate probe into the conduct of the then district coordinator of health services (DCHS), 9 doctors and 12 nurses.
The ACB recommended major penalties for the former DCHS, and cited a complete failure in administrative responsibilities.
The report blamed nine other doctors for negligence and dereliction of duty. Among the irregularities cited were inflated inpatient numbers, a failure to display diet charts, non-reporting of medicine usage, and general disregard for responsibilities by nurses.
Additionally, a hospital driver was found to have submitted false records of fuel expenses amounting to ₹74,000. Disciplinary action has been ordered against a contract sanitation worker involved in unauthorised dressing duties.
In light of the ACB's findings, the minister stressed the need for strict enforcement to ensure transparency and accountability in government healthcare institutions across Andhra Pradesh.
