Injured Teacher Fights Back, Helps Police Nab Auto Driver Within Hours
Her courageous response not only disrupted the assault but also played a crucial role in identifying and tracing the suspect

Nellore: Displaying extraordinary courage even after being stabbed, a 35-year-old government school teacher fought back against her attacker and helped police arrest the accused auto driver within three hours of the crime near Gudur Rural on Thursday.
Haritha, a primary school teacher working in Balayapalli mandal, was travelling from Gudur town to her school when the auto driver allegedly diverted the vehicle and stopped near Chimarti village in Gudur Rural limits. He then attacked her with a knife and attempted to snatch the gold chain from her neck.
Despite sustaining injuries, Haritha resisted bravely and reportedly counter-attacked the accused, injuring him in the process. Her courageous response not only disrupted the assault but also played a crucial role in identifying and tracing the suspect.
Acting swiftly on her complaint, police authorities alerted crime teams and directed formation of special squads. Gudur Rural police, working in coordination, tracked down and arrested the accused — identified as Venkataramana of Gudur town — within three hours. The auto used in the crime was also seized.
Additional SP (administration) Ch. Soujanya visited the hospital in Nellore, where Haritha is undergoing treatment, and briefed the media. She stated that the accused is currently in custody and being interrogated.
Haritha was initially treated at Gudur Area Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Nellore for advanced medical care. Doctors said she is stable and recovering.
The swift police action, combined with the victim’s remarkable bravery, has drawn praise from officials and residents alike. The incident, which had initially sparked fear in the town, has now become a story of resilience and prompt law enforcement response.
