Industry Joins Hands at Flamingo Festival to Conserve Pulicat Lake

Nellore: Emphasising on industry’s role in stewardship of environmental protection, Sri City hosted the “Coffee with Corporate” programme as part of the Flamingo Festival. It brought together corporate leaders, academia, and government officials to promote biodiversity, sustainability, and protection of Pulicat Lake.

Organised in collaboration with Krea University and the Andhra Pradesh forest department, Tirupati circle conservator of forests C. Selvam led the session, with the other participants being Chilika Development Authority’s Dr. Ajit Kumar Pattnaik, Sri City managing director Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, and Bombay Natural History Society deputy director Dr. Sathiya Selvam.

The discussion focused on strengthening corporate participation in ecological initiatives, CSR contributions, and collaborative measures to safeguard the migratory bird habitats. Selvam praised Sri City’s green initiatives, while Dr. Sannareddy highlighted the city’s efforts to balance industrial growth with sustainability, urging corporates to support annual conservation projects. Dr. Pattnaik shared insights from Chilika Lake conservation, advocating similar corporate-government partnerships for Pulicat Lake.

The programme included short films on nature conservation and interactive discussions on industry-community collaboration. Sri City’s festival stall, showcasing sustainable industrial practices, drew enthusiastic crowds, underlining the growing role of businesses in environmental protection.

Sunday also witnessed Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary receiving students, youth, and visitors from rural and urban areas, who arrived to watch migratory birds resting at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary made special arrangements, including offering facilities of the Nature Interpretation Centre and Environmental Science Centre. A help desk guided students to the free food stalls.

Students of various schools keenly observed the birds, gaining firsthand knowledge about biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Sanctuary staff guided visitors with regard to safety measures and viewing etiquette to be followed while watching the birds, ensuring minimal disturbance to the natural habitat.

After their visit, students and visitors shared their experiences, expressing delight at seeing the birds up close and appreciating the efforts taken to promote environmental awareness and eco-tourism through the Flamingo Festival 2026.

The main venue of Flamingo Festival at Sullurpet witnessed competitions in different sports.
